Progress, progress, progress! I'm skipping over a lot of little detail work here, mostly due to lack of building vocabulary.

The forms for the concrete footings were prepared and poured, despite the threatening (and actual) rain.

The concrete dried overnight, then the next day the inside forming lumber was removed. Then they packed the dirt down with some sort of packing machine. Two truckloads of gravel were dumped in the driveway, which was shoveled by hand into the pit, spread out, packed down and levelled. "Level" included putting in a slight slope toward the opening. Then a backing material for expansion was placed along the inside of the concrete footings, and a vapor barrier was laid down.

Next, a pile of sand appeared in the driveway and was shoveled and spread into the pit. Then rebar was laid down in a grid pattern, and raised on top of "dobie" bricks.

I had no idea so much was involved in foundation preparation, and I'm leaving out a LOT!

But, now we have a new problem: measurements, Visio drawings and paranoia have convinced us that we need to get the other metal storage container out before the garage and its roof overhangs are built. So, Thanksgiving weekend, we'll have to clean it out, set up a temporary tent, move some things into the house and other things under the tent, and then somehow pull the container to the street. This will be quite the operation!

Next week, the slab will be poured and the foundation will be done!
