Back to DaVE & Noemi's Garage -- Phase II

To finish up the floor, I'm painting the stem wall myself; ostensibly to save the $400 the epoxy-painters wanted to do the stem wall. As usual, when I get into a project like that, $400 sounds like less and less money. I'd planned to use just one coat of "traffic paint" in white, but it looks so much like primer, that I'm ending up going over it with a very light gray after all. On top of it, I've found that masking tape never works for crisp lines unless it's _really_ well taped down, and you only paint lightly over it. I ended up going over all the places where the epoxy paint and the stem wall paint meet to cover globs. Finally, that's done.
I finally finished restoring the cast-iron light fixture! The paint
removal isn't perfect, but at some point, you have to give up. I
spray-painted it with a clear enamel ("Painter's Touch" by Rustoleum),
and put new wires in it, and it's ready to be installed.
The city is finally repaving our street, after numerous delays
(that we caused!). Slurry seal will be in June, but right now,
we can actually drive from the street to our driveway. Note
the desperate need for landscaping on the park strip.
And, the plumbers finished! We have a flushing toilet and a bathroom
sink, but best of all, our utility sink is working. I've already used
it to clean paintbrushes, and it's great.
A momentous occasion: Dave worked on motorcycles in our garage
for the first time!
