Power's hooked up for construction. Tim and Craig spent Wednesday preparing for excavation: pulled back the landscape mat, jackhammered the driveway, took down 2 trees. We should probably get rid of the other tree, but I have separation anxiety. The excavator should come Friday!
Excavation! Pretty exciting -- a Cat leveled the area, and a backhoe dug out the outline of the structure, and a big truck hauled away the dirt. A 14" 8-foot long old pipe was pulled out of the site. G.C. Tim Smith oversees (pink T-shirt).
During the Bobcat digging, one of its tracks came off, and since the guy had few tools, Dave wound up lending him a grease gun and various socket wrenches.
Research! I spent Saturday afternoon researching garage doors, a pedestrian door, and siding. I'm liking the idea of synthetic materials more and more, and talked to Artistic Millwork (San Carlos, CA) and Sunnyvale Lumber about turning a fiberglass door into a Dutch door, for the pedestrian entry door. Sunnyvale Lumber also has samples of Hardiplank, a synthetic siding made by James Hardie Company, and I'm more and more convinced we should make this the lowest-maintenance structure we can -- this will make wood garage roll-up doors much more palateable.
