Back to DaVE & Noemi's Garage
Back to DaVE & Noemi's Garage -- Phase II

Monday 8am: Dave and I went to the City, to talk to public works about the driveway approach. Turns out the plans had the wrong detail, and a civil engineer gives us the right one and tells us if the inspector has any more questions to talk to her. We can make the approach more than 16 feet, yay.
The pavers are in, sand has been swept in the gaps, and then Joe
did the final tamping down with the ever-present pipe. Holy COW.
This looks fantastic, and generates interest from passers-by.
So far our neighbors seem to approve. It makes our funky
old house look like an estate.
Tuesday: lots of research on garage floor paint. Finally talk to technical rep at ICI Dulux, who gives me all kinds of good info. In the end, we decide on 2 coats of epoxy paint, by ICI Devoe Coatings, Devran 224HS.
Lots of excavation on the driveway approach.
Wednesday: under-driveway water runoff pipes installed. The garage's gutters are attached to underground pipes to run the water to the street, instead of onto the driveway. Good idea by Tim.
Joe and Tim are working on the city for a slight extension, as Joe might not be done by Monday. It's a LOT of work, and the screwup by the city with the driveway approach added a slight delay. It'd be tight anyway, and the weather is threatening not to cooperate this weekend. But what do the weathermen know.
I'd like to get the floor painters started next week, Tim has agreed to the delay. This might be slightly complicated by taking off to Tucson next week, where my father will be having an operation.
Obviously, the installation
is strong as DaVE demonstrates by standing on pavers that
have had their dirt excavated underneath for the gutter hookup.
Tim had the great idea to run pipes under the driveway that
hook up to the gutter, so that runoff from the garage roof is
directed right to the street.
It rained, and now the excavated driveway approach is a moat.
This happened a few weeks ago: Craig repaired the siding
from the electrical panel changeout on the house. He did a much
better job of restoring the siding than had been there originally.
Notice the way the siding butts up against the corner trim on
the right side (Craig's work), whereas the trim is just tacked
on top of the siding on the left side (work of the former owner
who put on the addition). The new siding still needs to be painted.
