Monday: 7 AM, insulator is here! He finishes by mid-morning.
Monday PM: Wow! The entire east side is sided! Tim and Craig
were cranking. The north side is sided by mid-week also. Notice
how they're cutting the siding to the trim pieces, rather than
tacking the trim pieces on top of the siding. This is better
craftsmanship than on most of our house.
We endure Fry's to get some cat-5 cable and RG-6 coax to wire to the garage.
What the heck is a plaster ring? Tim found one and used it to
terminate the conduit that will house the cat-5 and coax.
Wednesday: drywallers put up all the sheetrock today. Finishing
starts tomorrow, and continues into the next week. And there's a
huge ditch in our yard! Next day, another huge ditch for the water hookup.
Friday, I picked up the Polybau XX slider window, and our Simpson Dutch door, which Tim installed right away. Looks great! All the windows and doors have a touch of Noemi-over-the-topness: they're all double-hung, double-slider, or in the case of the door, double-opening. A latent claustrophobia or fear-of-being-trapped thing? Maybe I just like to open things.
Tim's talked to his concrete guy about using pavers instead of a slab, and it will cost roughly $1.50 extra per square foot. Pavers are just catching on here in the USA, but it's totally common in Europe. I'm completely hooked on the idea of not having a massive slab for a driveway. DaVE is his usual easygoing self about it all (my rock!).
So, we shopped this
weekend for pavers, and of course were immediately attracted to an
expensive kind from Abbotsford. Still, there are lower-cost alternatives
from local Pacific Interlock, and we'll have to decide very soon.
Also, should we re-pave the portico area? I'm watching the budget
very carefully now, and am more and more reluctant to
add extras.

Newflash! We finally settled on a garage door design and maker, and ordered the doors! We ordered a 16x8 and 8x7 door from Artistic Garage Doors in San Carlos. They should be ready by the first week of May. Yay!
